KHCC's Restorative Justice Fellowship
Restorative Justice
Restorative justice is not a single program at KHCC — it is woven into the fabric of everything we do.
Since 2012, KHCC has integrated restorative justice practices across its programs, starting with Peacemaking Circles in our youth programs. In 2019, we deepened that commitment organization-wide — embedding restorative justice into ESOL classes, mental health treatment, job training, internship programs, and even our annual staff retreat. Because almost all of our participants have experienced trauma or harm in some form, centering restorative justice in every communal space we manage means facilitating healing and promoting nonviolence at the neighborhood level.
What Restorative Justice Means at KHCC
Healing Harm
We use Peacemaking Circles and restorative practices to help participants process and heal from trauma related to violence, immigration, and abuse.
Building Community
Restorative justice builds trust and belonging — in classrooms, therapy rooms, and community spaces — creating stronger, more connected neighborhoods.
Preventing Violence
By training youth and staff as peacemakers, we reduce conflict, decrease safety transfers at local schools, and promote nonviolent problem solving.
