Zak is a licensed social worker, who specializes in trauma based therapy with children, teens and adults. Specifically with individuals who experienced Sexual Abuse either as children, or as adults. Prior to becoming a social worker, he graduated from Skidmore College with degrees in Psychology and History. After college, Zak worked as a paralegal in Criminal and Immigration law. When Zak decided to become a social worker, he attended Yeshiva University’s Wurzweiler School of Social Work, and received his MSW with a specialization in Child Welfare. As a social worker, Zak has worked in an Alternative to Incarceration program with the Brooklyn DA’s office; with NYC Housing Court’s Help Center and Department for the Aging’s Assigned Council Project. Prior to coming to Kingsbridge Heights Community Center’s Changing Futures Program, Zak worked for SCO Family of Services in the Treatment Family Foster Care program, providing services to traumatized children placed in foster care. At SCO Family of Services, Zak became a supervisor and field instructor. He also led the Mental Health Coordination Unit (MCHU) for the entire Foster Care portion of SCO. He also has a background in psychopharmacology, and continues to study the newest medications and advancements in treating trauma. In 2017, Zak presented at the Office of Victim Services (OVS) 2017 conference about Male Sexual Abuse, and received extremely positive reviews alongside his co-presenter. He also continues to work with the LGBTQ community. Zak is also a field instructor to MSW interns. In his spare time, Zak surfs, does yoga and plays chess.
