KINGSBRIDGE HEIGHTS COMMUNITY CENTER HOSTS VIRTUAL GARDEN TOUR TO RAISE FUNDS FOR SERVICES AMID COVID-19

BRONX, NY – On September 15, 2020, Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) will be hosting its first online fundraiser: a Virtual Garden Tour. The event, scheduled for 5:30pm, will be hosted by KHCC’s Horticultural Therapist and Garden Program Coordinator, Gerry Sherman. It will feature an exclusive look at the agency's outdoor space and how it’s utilized to serve the community. Guests will learn how to prepare tasty garden-inspired cocktails; hear from teen gardeners; view the food pantry in action; meet Buddy the therapy dog; and see the Center’s bee hives.

“Even in a pandemic, we must find joy, beauty and silliness in all that we do,” said Margaret Della, KHCC’s Executive Director. “At KHCC, we're always looking at the silver linings - 'glimmers' as our Board Chair calls them. Escape wherever you are, whatever your worries and "visit" KHCC for a bit of time to support neighbors and delight in the glimmers.”

While Covid-19 has made it a challenging year at KHCC, staff have been able to provide emergency support by feeding 200 families daily and providing a beautiful green space for our neighbors to grow fresh produce, catch their breath, and have a sense of normalcy.

By making a donation of $25, $50 or $100, or other amount, the attendees can RSVP for the virtual tour as well as support the agency’s emergency support work for Bronx families during the Covid-19 pandemic by sponsoring food boxes, cleaning supplies and microgrants. Since the pandemic began in March, KHCC has provided members of the local community with more than 50 microgrants, 80,000 non-perishable food items and 30,000 hot meals.

To RSVP for the event, please visit the event site, bit.ly/KHCCGardenTour or text “KHCC” to 41444.
