Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) Honors New York State Senator Gustavo Rivera at Annual Home Away From Home Benefit

BRONX, NY – Oct 29, 2019 –Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) will hold its annual benefit gala, “Home Away from Home,” on November 14, 2019 at SECOND, 849 Sixth Avenue, New York, NY from 6:30-9:30 p.m. The event will honor New York State Senator and Senate Health Committee Chair Gustavo Rivera of the Bronx’s 33rd District, and it will also include recognition of four dedicated KHCC supporters within the agency’s “KHCC Champion” network.

The “Home Away from Home” celebration, hosted by Australian actress and producer Katheleen Simmonds, will feature an electrifying performance by Hip-Hop legend and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of Run DMC, as well as exciting items to be auctioned by John Luke from A&E’s “Storage Wars New York.”

"I am so honored to be recognized by the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center at their annual benefit," said State Senator Gustavo Rivera. "As one of their local representatives, it has been a pleasure to champion their work and support their growth because they are consistently delivering what our neighborhood needs and deserves. I am very grateful to be a part of the family they are building for the Northwest Bronx."

Through programming for residents from birth to late adulthood, KHCC provides resources to empower families to build a stronger, more vibrant community. The “Home Away from Home” event will raise vital funds to enable KHCC to continue to provide the highest quality of services for Bronxites in need of Early Childhood, After School, Teen Center, College Direction, ESOL, Changing Futures and Special Needs programs.

This year’s benefit will highlight KHCConnect, an agency-wide case management system established to ensure families are connected to the resources needed to be strong, healthy units.

“Families who come to KHCC can only be a step or two away from a crisis: unaffordable housing, job instability, home emergencies, untreated trauma and abuse,” said Margaret Della, KHCC’s Executive Director. “KHCConnect offers highly trained staff who meet families where they are. Wrap-around services like these are invaluable to low-income New Yorkers who are just everyday people trying to make a brighter future for themselves, their families and the community”.
